My Background

Heather Mundell and daughters

Heather and her children

I created Mom In The Balance in 2009 to support and inspire moms who are in the sandwich generation – those who care for their kids while also holding some responsibilities, large or small, for their aging parents. Many of these moms are juggling careers, too!

This stage in our lives of being mothers and daughters is filled with excitement, uncertainty, tension, stress, confusion, heartbreak, growth, and richness. In a word, it’s intense!

I know that we can move beyond survival mode and thrive as our roles as mother and as daughter shift in unpredictable ways. But it’s not easy to figure out a good strategy for tackling all of those competing priorities and pulling it off gracefully.

It takes talking, listening, patience, gratitude, humor, connection, support, new ideas, faith, and not just a little bit of grit. I help you with all of that so you can have more energy and more ease.

I’m a 40-something married parent of two daughters still at home and the daughter of (divorced) parents, both of whom have needed me in new ways in the past couple of years.  Mom In The Balance is an enterprise very close to my heart.

As a professional coach, I’ve been helping men and women make important career and life decisions and achieve better work-life balance since 2003, when I founded Dream Big Coaching Services, a successful national coaching business based in Seattle.

Dream Big Coaching is still going strong, and many of the people I have served are now finding that they are facing issues particular to being members of the sandwich generation.

Some other things you might want to know about me:

  • I was certified as a professional coach in 2003 by inviteCHANGE (formerly Academy of Coach Training), an organization accredited by the International Coach Federation
  • I had a career in corporate human resources leadership prior to becoming a coach
  • I graduated from Smith College with a BA in English literature
  • I’ve lived in Seattle since 1989
  • I’m a new runner
  • I’m a huge fan of the TV show Modern Family
